Move pages

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to relocate pages within a document or transfer them between different Adobe InDesign files.

Moving pages lets you reorganize a document or transfer pages between open documents without breaking text threads. When moving pages between documents, InDesign applies matching styles, layers, and parent pages from the destination, so review formatting if page sizes or styles differ.

Move pages within a single document

Open any InDesign document.

Select the panel menu   icon and then select Move Pages.

In the Move Pages field, enter the page numbers you want to move.

For Destination, select the target location from the drop-down menu.

Enter the reference page number in the adjacent field to specify where pages should appear.

Select Delete Pages After Moving if you want to remove pages from their original location after moving them.

Select OK.

Move pages between two documents

Open both the source document and the destination document.

In the destination document, select the Pages panel menu   icon and deselect Allow Document Pages to Shuffle to keep spreads intact during the move.

Switch to the source document and select the Pages panel menu   icon, and then select Move Pages.

In the Move Pages field, enter the page numbers you want to move.

For Destination, select the target location within the destination document.

From the Move to drop-down menu, select your destination document name.

Select Delete Pages After Moving to remove pages from the source document after the move completes.

Select OK.
