Specify paper size and orientation

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to set paper dimensions and page rotation in Adobe InDesign to match your printing requirements.

Select the appropriate paper size and orientation to control how your InDesign document prints on physical media. Paper size refers to the sheet used by the printer, which may be larger than the page to allow space for the printer’s marks, bleed, or slug areas.

Most printers cannot print to the edge of the page, so the printable area may be smaller than the full paper size.

Select File > Print.

Navigate to the Setup section and select an option from the Paper Size menu.

Select an Orientation option to control page rotation.

The Print dialog box displaying the Paper Size set as A3, and a highlight box around the four Orientation options.
Set your page orientation as Portrait, Landscape, Reverse Portrait, or Reverse Landscape.

Review the preview in the lower-left corner to verify your document fits within the selected paper.

Select Save.
