Save managed layout changes

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to save assignment updates in Adobe InDesign to share layout modifications with InCopy users working on content.

You can save your changes and update the file copy as you work on content you have checked out.

Save checked-out content

Select content frames in the layout.

Select Edit > InCopy > Save Content.

Selecting File > Save saves the InDesign document and all checked-out content files. Assignment files are not automatically updated, and InCopy files may appear as out of date.

Save document with new name

Select File > Save As.

Enter a new name and location and select Save.

The document is saved with links to existing InCopy files, but assignments may appear missing until updated.

Save document copy

Select File > Save a Copy.

Specify a name and location and select Save.

A copy of the document is created with links to existing InCopy files.

Note

After saving content, InCopy users can update their local copies to see your latest changes. Content remains checked out to you until you explicitly check it in using Edit > InCopy > Check In.
