Export to interactive PDFs

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use built-in PDF export features in Adobe InDesign to create digital documents with multimedia.

Export InDesign documents up to 200" × 200" as interactive PDFs to preserve features such as buttons, multimedia, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and page transitions.

Use File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) for noninteractive PDFs, and test interactive elements (Window > Interactive > EPUB Interactivity Preview) before exporting.

Select File > Export.

Specify a location and file name for your PDF.

Select Use InDesign Document Name as the Output Filename if you want the exported PDF to retain the document name for future exports.

In the Save as type (Windows) or Format (macOS) menu, select Adobe PDF (Interactive).

Select Save to open the Export to Interactive PDF dialog box.

Specify options in the Export to Interactive PDF dialog box and select OK.
