Learn how to use print presets and settings in Adobe InDesign to output layouts to printers or presses.

Printing from InDesign lets you output documents to desktop printers or commercial presses, with control over page range, paper size, color, and quality. Use File > Print for documents or the Book panel for books.

Before you begin

Ensure that you’ve installed the correct driver and PPD for your printer.

Print a single document

Select File > Print.

Select a Printer in the Print dialog box.

Select a Print Preset or use [Default].

In the General section, specify the number of copies and enter the page range in the Range field.

Select All Pages, Even Pages Only, or Odd Pages Only from the Sequence menu.

Indicate if you want to print non-printing objects, blank pages, or visible guides and baseline grids.

In the Setup section, select the Paper Size and Orientation.

Review additional sections (Marks and Bleed, Output, Graphics, Color Management, and Advanced) and adjust settings.

Select Print.

Tip

The preview in the lower-left corner of the Print dialog box updates as you adjust settings, showing how your document fits on the selected paper size.

Print a book

Open the Book panel (File > New > Book) and ensure your book file is loaded.

To print all documents in the book, select Print Book from the Book panel menu .

To print specific documents, select them in the list and select Print Selected Documents from the Book panel menu.

In the Print dialog box, configure your printer settings as needed, and select Print.
