Define a numbered list in a paragraph style to control whether numbering continues across documents for figures, tables, and other items.
In the Book panel, double-click the document with the Indicates the Style Source
icon.
Select Type > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Define Lists.
Select New to define a list or select an existing list and choose Edit.
Enter a descriptive name for your list.
Select both Continue Numbers across Stories and Continue Numbers from Previous Document in Book.
Select OK to save the list definition.
Define a paragraph style with a numbered list and apply it to the relevant text in each document.
To keep your numbered lists consistent across every document in the book, select Paragraph Styles and Numbered Lists options in the Synchronize Options dialog box from the Book panel menu, then synchronize the book to apply those settings everywhere.
