Learn how to use templates from Adobe Stock or blank presets to start new projects.

InDesign offers multiple starting points for new projects: pre-designed templates from Adobe Stock with ready-to-use assets, or blank document presets with predefined dimensions and settings. Templates open as editable INDD files you can customize like any InDesign document. Presets provide predefined layouts for common tasks such as business cards, brochures, or device-specific designs.

Create a document from a preset

Select File > New > Document.

Select Saved, Print, Web, or Mobile to select a preset from the available options.

Modify the preset settings in the right panel as needed, including the document name, dimensions, page count, margins, columns, and bleed values.

Create a document from an Adobe Stock template

Adobe Stock templates provide ready-made layouts you can customize for print, web, or mobile projects. Templates open as editable InDesign documents, ready to customize immediately. You need an Adobe account with Stock access to download templates. InDesign may also prompt you to activate Adobe Fonts to ensure text elements display correctly.

Select File > New > Document.

Select one of the category tabs: Print, Web, or Mobile.

Browse the templates or use the search option to find specific ones.

Select a template thumbnail, then select See Preview to view it in a larger size.

Select Download to license the template through Adobe Stock.

Review the licensing terms and complete the transaction using your account credits or entitlements.

After licensing completes, select Open to launch the template as an InDesign document.

If prompted to activate fonts from Adobe Fonts, select Add to allow all required typefaces. The template opens as a standard InDesign document.  Downloaded templates are automatically added to the Stock Templates library in the CC Libraries panel, where you can search for more templates.
