Learn how to use the built-in QR code generator to create scannable codes in Adobe InDesign.

QR codes (Quick Response codes) let users scan information such as websites, contact details, messages, or text. InDesign includes a built-in QR code generator that creates scalable vector graphics you can resize and format like other vector objects.

Select Object > Generate QR Code to open the dialog box.

In the Content tab, select a data type from the Type dropdown:

  • Web Hyperlink
  • Plain Text
  • Text Message
  • Email
  • Business Card

Enter the content for your selected type in the fields that appear.

In the Color tab, select a swatch to change the QR code color. The default is black with a transparent background.

Select OK.

Place the QR code in the document at the default size (30 × 30 mm), inside an existing frame to replace its content, or by dragging to create a custom-sized frame.
