Create and manage articles

Learn how to use the Articles panel for structured export workflows in Adobe InDesign.

Articles provide a way to create relationships among page items such as text, images, and graphics. These relationships define both the content and the reading order when exporting to EPUB, HTML, or accessible PDF formats.

An article can include a combination of existing page items within a layout. After creating an article, you can add, remove, or reorder items as needed. Articles can be created manually by adding one or more page items to an article in the Articles panel. You can also add content in bulk by including selected items or the entire document in an article.

The XML Structure panel provides another method to define content order for EPUB, HTML, and accessible PDF export workflows. The Articles panel offers a simpler and more accessible approach, especially for users without XML experience. Both methods are available and can be used as needed.
