Error 195 during InDesign installation

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Resolve Error 195 when your system does not support the AVX2 instruction set required by Adobe InDesign or Adobe InCopy.

During installation, the installer stops and displays Error 195 because the system does not meet the minimum requirements. Some systems support AVX2, but the setting may be inactive in the BIOS.

AVX2 is inactive in the BIOS or UEFI settings

Some systems allow AVX2-related features to be unavailable in BIOS or UEFI.

Restart your computer.

Open the BIOS or UEFI settings, and look for processor-related options that control Advanced Vector Extensions, AVX, or AVX2 support.

If selecting AVX2 doesn't resolve the issue, your processor may not support AVX2. Check your processor model on the manufacturer's website, such as Intel ARK or AMD processor specifications, to confirm compatibility.

Virtualization settings are incorrect or incompatible

If you're installing Adobe InDesign Server in a virtual machine, verify that the virtualization platform exposes AVX2 support to the guest operating system. Older VM hardware versions or restrictive CPU compatibility settings may prevent AVX2 from being available.

Virtual machine hardware version is outdated

Upgrade the VM hardware version and review CPU compatibility settings in your virtualization platform. Before making changes, create a VM snapshot, as upgrading the VM's hardware version can't be reversed and may affect compatibility with older VMware ESXi hosts.

Tip

Installation logs are typically stored in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp (Windows) or /Library/Logs (macOS).
