Import grid formats from other documents

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to load named grid formats from existing Adobe InDesign files and Creative Cloud Libraries to reuse frame grid settings across documents.

Importing named grid formats lets you quickly reuse the same frame grid specifications, such as font, size, spacing, and alignment across InDesign documents. This Japanese-version-specific workflow pulls saved formats into the Named Grids panel, where they can overwrite existing formats with the same name and update all related grids. Before importing, confirm the source has saved formats and the destination file is open. You can also drag synced formats from the Windows CC Libraries panel.

Select Window > Type & Tables > Named Grids.

Select the panel menu icon and then select Load All Named Grids. You may also see an option to Import from Cloud Document if your source file is saved to the Adobe Cloud.

Navigate to and double-click the InDesign document (INDD or INDC) containing the grid formats you want to import.

Select OK. The imported grid formats now appear in the Named Grids panel and are available for use in the current document. When an imported grid format has the same name as an existing format in the destination document, the imported format replaces the existing one. All frame grids currently using that format will automatically update to reflect the imported settings. To avoid accidental overwrites, rename conflicting formats before importing.
