Find and replace objects

Learn how to update object formatting and effects across documents in Adobe InDesign.

Find/Change option enables you to search for objects based on specific formatting attributes and apply consistent formatting across graphics and frames in an InDesign document. Using the Object tab, you can locate items that share visual properties such as fills, strokes, effects, or transparency and replace them uniformly, helping maintain consistency throughout the layout without manually updating each object.

Select Edit > Find/Change.

Select the Object tab.

In the Find Object Format section, select the Specify Attributes to Find icon.

In the Find Object Format Options dialog box, select a formatting category on the left, specify the attributes you want to search for, and select OK.

In the Change Object Format section, select the Specify Attributes to Change icon.

In the Change Object Format Options dialog box, select a formatting category, specify the attributes you want to change, and select OK.

Select Find Next to locate the first matching object, then use Change to replace it individually, Change All to replace all instances at once, or Change/Find to replace and advance to the next match.
