Preview records in the target document

Learn how to review data merge records before merging in Adobe InDesign.
Previewing records allows verification of how data from the source file appears in the target document. During preview, field placeholders are replaced with actual data, making it easier to identify formatting issues or content errors before merging. If issues such as typographical errors or extra spaces appear during preview, update the data in the source file before proceeding with the merge.
Select the Preview option.
Review the document with actual data displayed instead of field placeholders.
Note
Use the navigation controls in the Data Merge dialog box to move through records and review different data entries. A specific record can be accessed by entering its number in the navigation field and confirming the entry.
