Split a page from the spread

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use the Pages panel in Adobe InDesign to remove a page from its spread and make it standalone.

Before you begin

Save the document first in case you need to restore the original layout.

In the Pages panel (Window > pages), select the spread containing the page you want to split.

Select the Pages panel menu   icon and deselect Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle.

In the Pages panel, drag the page you want to split away from the spread until a vertical black bar appears between spreads.

Release the mouse button to drop the page in its new position as a standalone page. To rejoin a split page to a spread later, select the page in the Pages panel and select Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle from the panel menu.
