Change and manage button appearance

Learn how to control button states and appearance changes in Adobe InDesign during interactions.

Change and manage the appearance of buttons in InDesign using appearance states in the Buttons and Forms panel. These states define how buttons look during interactions such as Normal, Rollover, and Click. Managing appearance states helps provide clear visual feedback in interactive documents.

Activate and customize button states

Select the button using the Selection tool. 

Select Window > Interactive > Buttons and Forms.

Choose Rollover in the Appearance section.

Select Window > Control or Window > Stroke.

Modify the button appearance.

Select Direct Selection tool, then choose File > Place to add an image if necessary.

Choose Click in the Appearance section from the Buttons and Forms panel and modify the appearance.

Manage and remove button states

Select Window > Interactive > Buttons and Forms.

Select or deselect the Enable/disable option state on export icon next to the appearance name to control state visibility.

Select the Delete icon to remove the selected Rollover or Click state.

Select the panel menu    icon, then choose Panel Options.

Set the Thumbnail Size, then select OK.
