Create object libraries

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to create reusable libraries for graphics, text, and layout elements in Adobe InDesign.

Create object libraries in InDesign to store reusable graphics, text, and page elements in a standalone INDL file. Libraries preserve formatting, styles, effects, and link information for consistent reuse. This helps maintain project-specific assets and streamline repeated design workflows.

Select File > New > Library.

Choose a location for the library file. You can choose to continue using InDesign object libraries or use Creative Cloud Libraries to organize, browse, and access assets across applications.

Enter a name in the File name field.

Select Save.
