Set printer's marks

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to configure crop marks, bleed marks, and registration marks for print production in Adobe InDesign.

Printer’s marks provide essential guidance for printing, including trim indicators, color registration marks, and page details. They appear outside the page edge in the bleed and slug areas and are intended for commercial printing workflows. Skip them for digital or office printing. Always set up bleed and slug space first and confirm which marks your print provider expects.

Select File > Print to open the Print dialog box.

In the list on the left, select Marks and Bleed.

In the Marks section, select the checkbox for each mark type you need: Crop Marks, Bleed Marks, Registration Marks, Color Bars, or Page Information.

Select the mark style appropriate for your output device from the Type drop-down menu. Default works for most commercial printers.

Select the line thickness for marks from the Weight drop-down menu.

Specify the distance between marks and the page edge in the Offset field.

In the Bleed and Slug section, select Use Document Bleed Settings to include the bleed area defined in your document setup.

Select Print to output your document with the configured marks.
