Learn how to open linked graphics in their source applications for direct editing in Adobe InDesign.

Edit original artwork in InDesign using the Edit Original command to open linked graphics in their native applications. Changes made in the source application are automatically reflected in the linked graphic in the document. This helps streamline artwork updates without having to manually locate source files.

Edit artwork in the default application

Select Window > Links.

Choose one or more linked graphics on the page or in the panel.

Select the Edit Original icon or choose Edit > Edit Original.

Modify the graphic in the source application.

Save the file in the original application.

Edit artwork in a different application

Select Window > Links.

Choose one or more linked graphics on the page or in the panel.

Select the Edit > Edit With, then choose the required application.

Choose Other, then select the application if necessary.

Modify the graphic in the selected application.

Select Save.
