Data merge fails with absolute paths on macOS

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Resolve absolute path errors by modifying Adobe InDesign configuration files in the application folder.

When you use Data Merge in InDesign on macOS, images or assets referenced through absolute file paths may fail to load even when the paths and files are valid. InDesign displays an alert that the assets cannot be referenced using absolute paths because a configuration setting prevents POSIX-style paths from being resolved during data merge operations.
