Show or hide grids

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to control grid visibility to see layout structures or preview final designs in Adobe InDesign.

InDesign provides two nonprinting alignment grids: the baseline grid for text and the document grid for object placement. Grids can be shown during layout work and hidden during design review. Their visibility is saved with the document.

Toggle baseline grid visibility

Select View > Grids & Guides > Show Baseline Grid to display the baseline grid.

Select View > Grids & Guides > Hide Baseline Grid to hide the grid.

The baseline grid only appears when your magnification level exceeds the View Threshold set in Preferences > Grids. Increase magnification if the grid isn't visible.

Toggle document grid visibility

Select View > Grids & Guides > Show Document Grid to display the document grid.

Select View > Grids & Guides > Hide Document Grid to hide the grid.
