Learn how to use export settings in Adobe InDesign to control how frames and groups appear in PDFs, EPUB, and HTML.

Object Export Options in InDesign let you control how selected frames and groups are exported to PDF, EPUB, and HTML. These settings help maintain accessibility information, preserve document structure, and improve content display across different output formats. Object-specific export settings override document-level preferences and can be configured independently based on export requirements.

Select the frame or group using the Selection tool.

Select Object > Object Export Options.

In the Alt Text tab, select an option from the Alt Text Source drop-down menu to provide text descriptions for screen readers.

In the Tagged PDF tab, select an option from the Apply Tag drop-down menu to define how the object is tagged in exported PDFs.

In the EPUB and HTML tab, set up the Format, Size, and Custom Layout settings for digital publications.

Select OK.
