AI Assistant helps you explore, create, and edit content, layouts, and objects using prompts within the InDesign (Beta) application. You can make quick changes to your design while keeping the parts you want intact.

  • This feature is available only in English (North America) and English (International).
  • AI Assistant includes a complimentary daily credit limit. Once reached, credits reset the next day.

Select AI Assistant from the Contextual Task Bar. You can also open the AI Assistant panel from Window > AI Assistant, File > AI Assistant, or by selecting the AI Assistant   icon in the top-right corner of the InDesign (Beta) application.

Enter a prompt in the AI Assistant panel to explore AI Assistant capabilities, including modifying layouts, asking questions about InDesign, and running multi-step workflows.

AI Assistant also displays suggestions to help you get started quickly:

  • Welcome suggestions: When you open the AI Assistant panel, you can view up to five suggested prompts appear. Select any suggestion chip to automatically fill the prompt field.
  • Follow-up suggestions: After the AI Assistant completes a response, you can view two to three follow-up prompt chips to guide your next action. These chips disappear when you send a new message.

Select the attachment icon in the AI Assistant panel to browse and attach files, or drag files into the panel.

Select the refresh icon to refresh the chat or workflow at any time. You can also select the new chat   icon to clear the current chat and start a fresh chat.

Select the Send Prompt icon, or press Enter (Windows) or Return (macOS).

Review the changes directly in your document.

You can use the thumbs-up   or thumbs-down   icon, along with the feedback option, to let us know what did or didn't work.

Supported file formats

AI Assistant works with a range of file types so you can analyze data patterns in spreadsheets (CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX), summarize or ask questions about text documents (TXT, Markdown, HTML, JSON), extract and describe content from images (PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, WebP), and review PDFs, Word documents (DOC, DOCX, RTF), and XML data files.

AI Assistant uses partner AI models, including GPT 5.2 and Claude Sonnet 4.6, to power its capabilities. Learn about the partner models in Adobe InDesign.
