Print or export book files

Learn how to export or print all documents in a book using synchronized settings in Adobe InDesign.

Output all documents in a book file as a single PDF or print job to ensure consistent settings and a streamlined workflow. Before proceeding, verify whether all documents are up to date, synchronized, and have no missing links.

Export a book to PDF

Select File > Open and select your .indb file to open the Book dialog box.

To export the entire book, select Export Book to PDF from the Book panel menu  ico icon.

To export selected documents, select documents, then select Export Selected Documents to PDF from the Book panel menu.

Specify the name and location for the PDF file, then select Adobe PDF (Print) as the type.

Interactive elements are not included when using the Adobe PDF (Print) format.

Select Save.

In the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, select a preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu or customize export settings.

For print production, select a PDF/X preset or select [Press Quality] for commercial printing.

Review accessibility options in the Advanced tab, setting Language and Display Title as appropriate.

Select Export (Windows) or Save (macOS).

Print a book

Select File > Open and select your .indb file to open the Book dialog box.

To print the entire book, select Print Book from the Book panel menu .

To print specific documents, select documents and select Print Selected Documents from the Book panel menu.

In the Print dialog box, select your printer from the Printer menu.

Select a Print Preset from the menu or configure print settings manually.

In the General section, set the number of copies and confirm all page ranges are included.

Review settings in each category (Setup, Marks and Bleed, Output, and so on).

Select Print.
