Learn how to use the arrow keys while dragging to create equally spaced frames in rows and columns in Adobe InDesign.

Use frame-creation tools in InDesign to generate structured grid layouts by adjusting rows, columns, and spacing as you draw without duplicating and positioning each frame manually.

Select a frame-creation tool: Polygon Frame tool, Rectangle Frame tool, Ellipse Frame tool, or Type tool.

Drag to start creating your frame.

While holding down the mouse button, press the following:

  • Right Arrow key: To increase the number of columns.
  • Left Arrow key: To decrease the number of columns.
  • Down Arrow key: To increase the number of rows.
  • Up Arrow key: To decrease the number of rows.

Hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Command (macOS) while pressing the arrow keys to adjust the gutter spacing between frames.

Release the mouse button.
