Select Window > Type & Tables > Character. Then choose Set the font family dropdown menu to open the font browser.
You can also access the Font Family dropdown menu from the Contextual Task Bar, the Character section in the Properties panel, and the Control panel. You can also find and apply fonts from Type > Font.

The font browser in InDesign is organized into three tabs:
- Your Fonts: Shows the fonts already available to you.
- Libraries: Hold font collections you create and reuse. Libraries can be personal, shared, or enterprise. If a library is shared with you, only its owner can rename or delete it. Font Libraries also display Creative Cloud (CC) Libraries that contain fonts. CC Libraries can store fonts and other assets, such as colors, swatches, and graphics.
- Discover More: Displays content from Adobe Fonts, so the styles, trending fonts, and new releases reflect the latest collections featured there.
Font libraries you create sync across Adobe apps that support the same font-browsing experience, such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premiere. Add a font to a library in one app, and it's automatically available in the others.
Save a font as a favorite or add it to a library
Keep the fonts you use most within easy reach.
Point to a font name in Your Fonts tab or Discover More tab.
Choose how you want to save the font:
- Select Add to favorites icon to save the font as a favorite.
- Select Add to Library icon to add it to a library.
Choose an existing library or create a new one.
Select Window > Type & Tables > Character. Then choose the Set the font family dropdown menu to open the font browser.
Select the Libraries tab.
Choose an existing library or select New. Adding a font to a library adds the entire font family, not just the single style you had selected.
Manage your libraries as needed:
- Open a library to view its fonts in a tree view, organized by font family.
- Delete individual fonts from a library without deleting the library.
- Rename or delete a library using the icons next to its name.
- Sort libraries by date or name.
Filter fonts
Filters help you quickly narrow long font lists and find the fonts you need by combining multiple filter options.
Select Window > Type & Tables > Character. Then choose the Set the font family dropdown menu to open the font browser.
Select Your Fonts or Discover More tab. Any filters you apply remain active when you switch between tabs.
Select the Filters icon to open filtering options, then select an option to filter fonts:
- Languages & Writing Systems: Shows only fonts that support a script, such as Japanese, Korean, or Kannada.
- Font Technology: Filters fonts by their underlying format, such as TrueType, OpenType, Variable, SVG, or Composite.
- Font Classification: Groups fonts by design style, such as Serif, Sans Serif, Slab, Script, or Blackletter.
- Font Properties: Narrows fonts by visual traits like weight, width, x-height, caps style, and number style.
Combine filters to narrow your results further. Select Clear All to remove every active filter and show all fonts again.
Find and add Adobe fonts
Explore fonts without leaving InDesign.
Select Window > Type & Tables > Character. Then choose the Set the font family dropdown menu to open the font browser.
Select Discover More.
Browse through Explore Styles, Trending fonts, New releases, or the Browse all Adobe Fonts section.
To add a font to your account, hover over the font name, select the Add icon, then select OK.
Set font panel preferences
Select Window > Type & Tables > Character. Then choose the Set the font family dropdown menu to open the font browser.
Select Settings .
Set an option:
- Sample size: Choose the font size used for font previews.
- Recently used: Show or hide the Recently used section and choose how many fonts it displays.
- Auto-add Adobe Fonts: Automatically activate Adobe Fonts when needed, so you don't have to activate them manually.
