Create or open the InDesign document you want to work on with others, then select Share in the menu bar. You can also choose File > Invite to Coedit.

Learn how to invite collaborators to join a live co-editing session on a shared Adobe InDesign cloud document and see each other's changes as they happen.
Co-editing lets multiple people work on the InDesign document at the same time. Everyone can make layout and text changes that automatically sync with everyone else. Edit full layouts and text in InDesign desktop, the right choice for designers making layout changes.
Before you begin
- Install InDesign Beta 21.7. Co-editing is available only in this version. Make sure you and all collaborators have it installed.
- Collect the email address of each collaborator you want to invite. Make sure each collaborator has an Adobe ID. If they don't, they can create one before you send the invite. Learn how to create an Adobe ID.
Invite collaborators to co-edit
Select Save. InDesign converts the file to the INDDL format required for co-editing and saves it with the default name Untitled-[timestamp].
Enter each collaborator's email address, then select Invite to coedit.
For people who already have access, select Copy link and send it to them directly. Invited collaborators receive an email with a link to open the document and can also access it from Creative Cloud notifications or under Shared with you on the InDesign Home screen.
See who's editing and what's locked
- While co-editing, the presence (profile) icon shows who's in the document.
- InDesign locks text frames during editing and shows a warning if you try to edit a frame someone else is already working on.
- For other elements, such as images or shapes, this restriction doesn't apply. Multiple collaborators can edit non-text elements at the same time.
Choose an option to open the shared document.
- From the invite email: Click the link to open the document. This opens in Chrome browser, where a message prompts you to open the document in the InDesign desktop app, as co-editing isn't available on the web.
- From Creative Cloud home: Select the bell icon to view your co-editing invitations, then select the notification to open the document. This opens in a new tab, where a message prompts you to open the document in the InDesign desktop app, as co-editing isn't available on the web.
- From Creative Cloud desktop:
- Select the bell icon to view your co-editing invitations. You can also select Open to open the latest invitation.
- If you selected the bell icon, select a notification to open a view-only version of the document in Creative Cloud desktop. Then select Open. If InDesign is installed, the document opens in the InDesign desktop app. If it isn't, an InDesign required prompt appears. Select Install.
- From the InDesign Home screen: View all documents shared under Shared with you and open the document to co-edit.
Start editing. Wait for the document to finish loading (that is, delta completion) before making any edits. Once loaded, your changes sync automatically with all collaborators, and you can see their updates in real time without saving or refreshing.
Open a shared document as an owner
Select Your files on the InDesign Home screen, or view under Recent, to find and reopen a document you've already shared.

Known issues
- On macOS, selecting a Fill/Stroke color from the Properties panel may require multiple clicks before the color is applied.
- Workaround: Select Window > Color > Swatches. Set fill and stroke colors.
- InDesign may crash when a collaborator edits a document while a style dialog is open.
- Workaround: Avoid editing styles while a collaborator is actively editing the document.
- Users may not see the Missing Font dialog after a collaborator applies a custom font to a shared INDDL document.
- Place Gun doesn't reload remaining images after undoing a placement.
- Collaborators may see extra empty pages and an incorrect facing-page layout after the document owner inserts an index.
- Collaborators may see an empty text frame instead of overset content after a pasted text frame is threaded.
- INDDL file names may have a timestamp appended when newly created documents are saved.
- Collaborator names may not appear for document versions in the Version History panel of a shared INDDL document.
- Opening or creating an INDDC document and making any edits on the canvas may cause InDesign to crash.
