Issue

When you perform a GREP search in long InDesign documents that contain more than 50K characters, the search operation fails to find all the instances that match with the specified search string.

This issue occurs with InDesign, InCopy, and InDesign Server for both Windows and macOS.

Resolution prerequisite

Before you perform the resolution steps, ensure that you have InDesign/InCopy/InDesign Server 14.0.2 installed on your system. You can check the version installed on your system by going to Help About <application name>.

You can update the version on your system from the Creative Cloud desktop app. For more information, see Update Creative Cloud apps.

Resolution for InDesign | Windows

Perform the following steps to download and install the plugin to resolve this issue in Windows:

  1. Close the Adobe InDesign application, if it's open.

  2. Download CopyPlugin.zip and extract its content to desktop.

  3. In the extracted folder, double-click CopyPlugin.vbs.

  4. Browse and select Adobe InDesign 2019 application folder.

  5. Click OK. If you get an error while copying the file, make sure that you unzip the downloaded file before running the plug-in.

  6. The plug-in is installed and you get the following message once InDesign is successfully updated. Click OK.

  7. Restart your system and launch Adobe InDesign.

Resolution for InDesign | macOS

Perform the following steps to download and install the plugin to resolve this issue in macOS:

  1. Close Adobe InDesign, if it's open.

  2. Download CopyPlugin.zip.

  3. Unzip the downloaded file and extract its content to desktop.

  4. In the extracted folder, double-click CopyPlugin.app.

  5. Select the Adobe InDesign 2019 application and click Choose.

  6. If you get an error while copying the file, make sure that you unzip the downloaded file before running the plug-in. The following message is displayed once the plugin is installed and InDesign is successfully updated. Click OK.

  7. Restart your system and launch Adobe InDesign.

Note:

While running the plugin script, you may need to provide permissions to the InDesign app to copy the updated plugins.

Resolution for InCopy | Windows and macOS

Download the following plugins to resolve the issue for Windows and macOS respectively:

To install and run the plugin, follow the same steps as listed above for InDesign. Ensure that you select the Adobe InCopy 2019 application folder on Windows and Adobe InCopy 2019 application on macOS.
