Fix DLL errors when launching Illustrator on Windows

Last updated on Oct 22, 2026

Learn how to resolve missing DLL errors when launching the Adobe Illustrator on Windows by reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

If Illustrator won't launch on Windows, you may see an error such as “The program can't start because VCRUNTIMExx.dll is missing from your computer” or “MSVCP110.dll was not found.” These errors can occur when Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages are missing or corrupted.

Missing or corrupted Visual C++ runtime libraries prevent Illustrator from launching

Reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package. The original Adobe procedure removes existing Microsoft Visual C++ entries before installing the package, so review the technical note below before following it.

In Windows Search, type Add or remove programs, then press Enter.

Locate the Microsoft Visual C++ entries in the installed apps list. The original Adobe procedure instructs you to uninstall all instances.

Open the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.

Under Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022, download vc_redist.x64.exe.

Open the downloaded file to start the installer.

In the installer, accept the license terms and select Install.

When installation finishes, select Close.

Restart your computer, then launch Illustrator.

Illustrator should launch without displaying the DLL error.
