Troubleshoot Illustrator cloud document errors

Last updated on Oct 21, 2026

Learn how to resolve common issues with Adobe Illustrator cloud documents.

If you encounter an error while opening, syncing, or working with a cloud document, try the applicable workaround below.

Could not open a cloud document

If a cloud document doesn't open in Illustrator, download it from the Creative Cloud website and open the local copy.

Go to the Creative Cloud website.

Select Your work > Cloud documents.

Locate the document and download it.

Open the downloaded file in Illustrator.

If the document opens successfully, save it as a new cloud document.

Assets are not synced

If your assets aren't synced, allow time for synchronization to complete.

If the issue persists, verify that you're connected to the internet and wait for the sync to finish.

Network error, No Internet connection, or Offline editing

These errors indicate that Illustrator can't connect to Creative Cloud.

Verify that your internet connection is active.

Reconnect to the network if necessary.

Wait for Illustrator to reconnect and resume syncing.

Syncing failed or Request timed out

If a sync operation doesn't complete successfully:

Retry the operation.

If the issue persists, quit Illustrator.

Restart the Adobe Content Synchronizer process.

Reopen Illustrator and try again.

User account suspended

If your Adobe account is suspended, you can't access cloud documents.

Check your Adobe account status and resolve any account issues before trying again.

Cloud storage full

If your cloud storage is full, free up storage before continuing.

Delete unnecessary files and permanently remove unneeded documents from the Deleted folder.

Activation limit reached

If you've reached your activation limit, deactivate an unused device and sign in again using the Creative Cloud “Activation limit reached” or Sign-in failed procedure.

Duplicate document names

If two cloud documents have the same name, Illustrator automatically renames one of the documents to avoid a naming conflict.

Refresh the Cloud documents view if the updated filename doesn't appear immediately.

Unknown error

If you receive an unknown error while working with a cloud document:

Retry the operation.

Quit and restart Illustrator.

Try the operation again.
