Learn how to identify and update outdated GPU drivers that can cause compatibility warnings and performance issues in Adobe Illustrator.
When Illustrator detects outdated GPU drivers, it displays a System Compatibility Report during launch. Outdated drivers can affect GPU-accelerated features and prevent Illustrator from performing optimally.
Before updating GPU drivers, ensure that your operating system and Illustrator are up to date.
- macOS: Update macOS to receive the latest GPU driver updates.
- Windows: Update Windows, then update your GPU drivers if the warning continues.
- Update Illustrator to the latest version.
Illustrator displays a System Compatibility Report
If Illustrator detects outdated GPU drivers, it displays a System Compatibility Report at launch.
Select Help > System Compatibility Report to reopen the report after closing it.
We recommend updating your GPU drivers as soon as the report appears.
You don't know your GPU manufacturer
Identify your GPU manufacturer before updating its drivers.
Launch Illustrator.
Open Preferences (Ctrl+K or Edit > Preferences).
Select Performance.
Note the manufacturer listed under GPU Details.
Note
If your computer has multiple GPU cards, identify each manufacturer and update all associated drivers.
Your AMD GPU drivers are outdated
Press Windows + R.
Type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter.
Expand Display adapters.
Right-click AMD graphics card, and select Update driver.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
Restart your computer and launch Illustrator.
If Windows doesn't install the latest driver, download it from AMD Drivers and Support.
Your Intel GPU drivers are outdated
Open the Intel Graphics Driver support page.
Identify your graphics card model.
Download the recommended driver.
Run the installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
Restart your computer and launch Illustrator.
Your NVIDIA GPU drivers are outdated
Open the Nvidia driver download page.
Enter your GPU details.
Download the latest driver.
Run the installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
Restart your computer and launch Illustrator.
You're using macOS
GPU drivers are installed through macOS updates.
Open System Settings > General > Software Update.
Install any available updates.
Restart your Mac.
Launch Illustrator.
