Edit animation frames

Adjust layer visibility, position, opacity, and blending modes to modify animation frames in Adobe Photoshop.

Animation frames in Photoshop allow you to create dynamic content by making sequential changes to your layers. By editing individual frames, you can create smooth animations with objects that move, fade, or transform.

Frame animation is ideal for creating simple animations like GIFs for web use. Each frame represents a specific configuration of your layers, and by making small changes between frames, you can create the illusion of movement or transformation. This technique works best for animations with discrete changes rather than continuous motion.

Select a frame in the Timeline panel.

Select the eye icon next to the selected layers to adjust their visibility in the Layers panel.

Change the position of objects in a layer and using the Move tool.

Adjust layer opacity in the Layers panel to create fade-in or fade-out effects between frames.

Change blending modes of layers to create different visual effects as your animation progresses.

Select the Layer effects icon in the Layers panel to add effects.

Select the Play   icon in the Timeline panel to preview your changes.

For more complex animations with multiple moving elements, consider creating each element on a separate layer. This approach gives you greater control over individual animation components.
