Overview of Adobe Photoshop (beta) on desktop

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how the Adobe Photoshop (beta) app provides early access to new features.

Photoshop (beta) is a separate app that runs alongside your regular Photoshop installation. It gives you early access to new features that are still in development. This pre-release version allows Adobe to gather valuable feedback directly from users before release. Photoshop (beta) lets you test upcoming features without disrupting your production workflow. You can keep both apps installed and switch between them as needed.

When to use Photoshop (beta) vs. regular Photoshop

Understanding when to use each version of Photoshop helps ensure you're working in the right environment for your needs:

Use regular Photoshop when you need:

  • Stability and fully polished features
  • Content for commercial purposes
  • Critical projects with tight deadlines
  • Minimal risk of crashes or unexpected behavior

Use Photoshop (beta) when you want:

  • Early access to the latest features
  • Opportunities to provide feedback on future releases
  • Space to explore new creative possibilities
  • YA testing environment for non-critical projects where some instability is acceptable

Generative AI features and credits

Most generative AI features in Photoshop (beta) deduct generative credits from your Adobe account. Your credit balance updates in real time between the Photoshop and Photoshop (beta) applications. However, some tools, like the Remove tool (using generative AI mode) and the Remove button, don't consume credits.

Note

Outputs from generative AI beta features can be used commercially unless otherwise designated in the product or elsewhere, but these outputs are not eligible for indemnification while in beta.
