Apply transformations

Learn how to use Transform in Adobe Photoshop to scale, rotate, skew, distort, add perspective, or warp layers or selections.

Transformations help you change the appearance of selected objects, such as resizing, rotating, or altering perspective. Photoshop offers flexible tools to apply these modifications directly to layers, text, shapes, or selections.

Transform an object or layer

Note

You can only transform the active layer or selection. To transform a background layer, first convert it into a regular layer by selecting the lock icon next to it in the Layers panel.

Select the layer or area you want to transform.

Go to Edit > Transform, then select a transformation type:

  • Scale to resize
  • Rotate to turn
  • Skew to slant
  • Distort to stretch
  • Perspective to shift depth
  • Warp to bend and curve freely

Press Enter (Windows), Return (macOS), or select Done to confirm the transformation.

Repeat a transformation

You must apply at least one transformation using Transform or Free Transform before Again becomes available.

Select the layer or object you want to transform again.

Select Edit > Transform > Again from the menu bar.

Press Enter (Windows), Return (macOS), or select Done.
