Stack floating panels

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to organize your workspace in Adobe Photoshop by grouping related panels into stacks.

In Photoshop, dragging a panel out of its dock creates a floating panel that you can position anywhere in the workspace. If you drag it into a drop zone, it docks again. You can stack floating panels or panel groups, so they move as a unit by dragging the title bar of the top panel.

Drag the tab of a floating panel.

Drop it on the lower edge of another panel when a blue outline appears. Ensure to drop the tab over the narrow drop zone between panels, not on the title bar.

To change the stacking order, drag a panel by its tab and move it up or down.

To float a panel independently, drag its tab away from the stack.

Tip

Double-click a tab to minimize or maximize a panel, group, or stack. Drag any panel edge to resize it.
