Create a new preset brush

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to save your customized brushes as presets in Adobe Photoshop and export them to a library for easy reuse at any time.

Photoshop stores all current brush settings (size, shape, hardness, and more) to maintain consistency in your artwork.

Select Window > Brushes.

Select an existing brush from the Brushes panel and customize it in the Brush Settings panel.

New Brush dialog box showing name field and options to include size, color, and tool settings, with Brush Settings behind.
Name your new brush preset and include tool settings, such as opacity or color.

Select the Create new brush icon at the lower-right corner.

Enter a name for your preset brush.

Select OK to save it.

Open the Brushes panel menu and select Export Selected Brushes to save the brushes in a custom library permanently.

The Brushes panel is open, and the Export Selected Brushes option is highlighted in the context menu.
Save your brushes to archive or share with others.

Tip

Preset brushes are stored in the Preferences file. If this file is deleted, reset, or damaged, your brushes will be lost. Saving them in a custom library ensures they are permanent.
