Manage layer visibility in animation frames

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Control layer visibility in individual animation frames to create dynamic effects, transitions in Adobe Photoshop.

Hiding layers in animation frames is useful when you want to create animations with elements that appear and disappear, or when you need to swap content between frames. This technique works with any frame animation in Photoshop and requires no special plugins or extensions.

Open the Timeline panel (Window > Timeline).

Select the frame for which you want to manage the layer visibility.

Select the panel menu   icon and select New Layers Visible In All Frames to make all new layers visible in all the frames in the animation.

Tip

To hide a layer in a specific frame, select the frame, and then hide the desired layer in the Layers panel.
