Replace Object Colors by Applying a Hue or Saturation Adjustment

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn more about replacing the color of selected objects in Adobe Photoshop using Hue/Saturation adjustment layers for flexible, non-destructive editing.

You can use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to replace the colors of specific objects while keeping your edits non-destructive.

Select the object with the Quick Selection tool.

In the Adjustments panel > Single adjustments, select the Hue/Saturation <insert icon here> icon. The selection becomes a mask on the adjustment layer.

In the Properties panel, move the Hue and Saturation sliders to replace the object’s color. If the original color tints the new one, select Colorize and readjust the settings.

Move the Lightness slider at 0 to maintain contrast. To preserve both contrast and saturation, set the adjustment layer to Hue blending mode.

Paint on the mask with black or white to refine the affected area.
