Enhance image resolution and improve detail with Generative Upscale.

Select File > Open to open a low-resolution or low-detail image.

Select Image > Generative Upscale.

In the Generative Upscale dialog, select the desired output scale (2x or 4x) and adjust parameters as needed.

Select the AI model to power the upscaling. Each model delivers a distinct type of enhancement.

  • Firefly Upscaler: Restores low-resolution images (up to 6144 px × 6144 px)
  • Topaz Gigapixel: Preserves existing detail (available for users with a premium subscription; up to 56 megapixels)
  • Topaz Bloom: Adds new, creative detail (available for users with a premium subscription; up to 9 megapixels)

Select Upscale to create the upscaled image in a new document with an updated name.

Note

Generative Upscale consumes a different amount of credits based on the model and upscaled file output size. If the chosen scale factor exceeds a model’s limit, reduce the scale factor or resize the image.

  • With Firefly (standard feature):
    • 5 credits = files between 1-9 megapixels
    • 10 credits = files between 25-56 megapixels
  • With Topaz Labs (premium feature, powered by a partner AI model):
    • Topaz Gigapixel (files up to 25 megapixels) = 10 credits
    • Topaz Gigapixel (25-56 megapixels) = 20 credits
    • Topaz Bloom (1-9 megapixels) = 35 credits
