Save for Web

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to use the legacy export option in Adobe Photoshop to save web-ready images while preserving your original PSD file.

If you prefer the familiar interface and detailed export controls of Photoshop, the Save for Web feature is available in Photoshop. It’s excellent for fine-tuning images for the web, allowing you to choose formats, adjust quality, and preview file size before saving.

Note

Save for Web is a legacy option maintained mainly for compatibility. It uses more memory and can be slower than newer export options on very large files.

Select File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy).

Select your desired file format (JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WBMP).

Adjust the quality and other options based on your format.

Preview your image and check the file size.

Select Save.

Select a location to save your file, name it, and select Save again.
After exporting, your file will be saved to the specified location, while your original PSD file remains unchanged.
