Remove background in your images

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to quickly remove the background from your images using Quick Actions in Adobe Photoshop.

Select the image layer in the Layers panel.

Ensure the layer containing the subject is active and unlocked.

Select the search icon in the workspace or select Help > Photoshop Help from the menu bar to open the Discover panel.

Select Browse > Quick Actions in the Discover panel, then select Remove Background.

Photoshop isolates the subject and creates a transparent background or a masked layer ready for compositing or export.

To apply the action to a different layer, select it in the Layers panel and then select Refresh in the Discover panel to re-run the quick action on it.

Revert changes if needed by selecting Revert in the Discover panel.

Tip

For best results, use high-contrast images. If the background removal isn’t perfect, refine the mask manually using the Brush tool on the layer mask.
