Specify looping in frame animations

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Control how many times your frame animation plays by setting loop options in Adobe Photoshop.

Frame animations in Photoshop can be set to play once, a specific number of times, or continuously in a loop. Setting the right looping option ensures your animation plays as intended when exported or viewed online.

Looping settings are applied to the entire animation and determine how many times the sequence repeats when viewed. These settings don't affect how the animation appears while editing in Photoshop, but they do control playback behavior when the animation is exported as an animated GIF or other supported format.

Open the Timeline panel (Window > Timeline).

Select the looping options menu in the bottom-left corner of the Timeline panel. The default option is Forever.

Select one of the available looping options: Once, 3 Times, Forever, or Other. If you selected Other, enter the number of times you want the animation to loop in the dialog box that appears, then select OK.

After setting your loop options, you can preview the animation using the playback options in the Timeline panel.
