Choose a CMYK equivalent for a non-printable color

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Set the closest CMYK equivalent when a color is non-printable in Adobe Photoshop.

When working with colors for print, some RGB or other color values cannot be accurately reproduced with printing inks. Photoshop helps you identify these out-of-gamut colors and convert them to their closest printable CMYK equivalents.

The CMYK model represents the four inks used in printing: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.

Select Set foreground color or Set background color in the toolbar to open the Color Picker

Select a color in the Color Picker.

If the color is non-printable, a Warning: out of gamut for printing icon appears.

Select the alert triangle to replace the color with its closest CMYK equivalent. The color updates to the nearest printable CMYK value.
