Learn how pixel dimensions and layers affect file size, and how to improve images for storage and editing.

File size is determined by the pixel dimensions of an image and the number of layers it contains. Larger images with more pixels provide greater detail but require more disk space and may take longer to edit and print.

Reduce file size

  • Flatten or reduce the number of layers in the image.
  • Resize the image to smaller pixel dimensions.
