Export layers as files

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to save each layer as a separate file in Adobe Photoshop, select your preferred format, and name files exactly as you want.

Converting layers to individual files allows you to create assets for web design, create variations for a client, or organize pieces for animation, all without manually exporting each layer one by one.

Select File > Export > Layers to Files.

Select the destination folder.

Enter a name in the File Name Prefix text box to specify a common prefix for all the exported files.

Select Visible Layers Only to export only the layers for which visibility is enabled in the Layers panel.

Select a format from the File Type dropdown.

Set any format-specific options.

Select Include ICC Profile to embed the working space color profile. This is important for color-managed workflows.

Select Run.

Export Layers to Files dialog box is open. The dialog box contains settings to choose a destination folder, enter a file name prefix, select only visible layers, pick a file format, adjust format-specific options, and include an ICC color profile. A Run button is available to start exporting each layer as its own separate file.
Turn your layered design into a set of individual files.

Photoshop saves one file per layer in the folder you select. Each filename uses your prefix plus the layer name.
