Learn more about creating a scale marker, adding or replacing markers, and deleting them in Photoshop to represent measurement scales visually.

Create a scale marker

Select Image > Analysis > Place Scale Marker.

In the Measurement Scale Marker dialog box, set the following options

  • Length: Enter a value to set the marker length. The pixel length depends on the active measurement scale.
  • Font: Select the font for the display text.
  • Font Size: Select the font size for the display text.
  • Display Text: Select this option to show the logical length and units.
  • Text Position: Display the caption above or below the marker.
  • Color: Set the marker and caption color to black or white.

Select OK. The marker is placed in the lower-left corner of the image as a layer group containing a text layer (if display text is enabled) and a graphic layer.

Use the Move tool to reposition the marker, or the Text tool to edit the caption, font, size, or color.

Add or replace scale markers

Select Image > Analysis > Place Scale Marker.

In the dialog box, select whether to Remove or Keep existing markers.

Enter new settings for the marker.

Select OK to place the new marker.

Note

Additional markers are placed in the exact location and may obscure each other. To view underlying markers, turn off the scale marker layer group in the Layers panel.

Delete a scale marker

In the Layers panel, select the Measurement Scale Marker layer group.

Right-click the group and select Delete Group or the Delete Layer.

In the confirmation dialog box, select Group and Contents.
