Draw a circle, square, or rectangle

Learn to draw circles, squares, and rectangles with the Ellipse and Rectangle tools in Adobe Photoshop.

Draw a circle

To draw a circle, select the Ellipse   tool from the Tools panel.

Tip

Select the Create a new layer icon in the Layers panel to create a new layer and work non-destructively.

To draw a perfectly round circle, click and drag on the canvas, with the Shift key selected.

Select Edit > Fill to apply a fill color inside the circle and Edit > Stroke to apply stroke (outline) color and thickness.

Draw a square or rectangle

To draw a square or rectangle, select the Rectangle   tool from the Tools panel.

Tip

Select the Create a new layer icon in the Layers panel to create a new layer and work non-destructively.

To draw a perfect square, click and drag on the canvas, with the Shift key selected.

Select Edit > Fill to apply a fill color and Edit > Stroke to apply stroke color and thickness.
