Understand how the Match Color command in Adobe Photoshop helps you make colors consistent between images, layers, or selections.

The Match Color command in Photoshop adjusts colors in single or multiple images, layers, or selections to align with colors in another. This feature helps create visual consistency across multiple photos or elements. It can be accessed from Image > Adjustments > Match Color.

Overview of Match Color

Match Color is a Photoshop command that standardizes colors between different sources. It works only in RGB mode and can be applied in the following ways:

  • Between two separate images.
  • Between different layers in the same image.
  • Between multiple selections within an image.

Benefits of Match Color

Match Color is useful when you need to:

  • Create a consistent look across several photos in a series.
  • Match specific tones, such as skin colors, between different images.
  • Combine layers or selections while keeping a uniform color balance.

Functionality of Match Color

When activated, the command temporarily changes the pointer to the Eyedropper tool so you can sample colors. The Info panel displays pixel values in real time, giving you feedback on adjustments.

The command provides controls for:

  • Luminance adjustment to brighten or darken the image.
  • Color range adjustment to expand or reduce the spectrum of tones.
  • Cast neutralization to correct unwanted color tints.
