Create documents using international languages, scripts, and text

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Use the Unified Text Engine to create documents with international languages and scripts in Adobe Photoshop.

The Unified Text Engine helps you to work with international languages and scripts from around the world. This feature eliminates the need to switch between different text engines when working with various languages in your designs.

The Unified Text Engine replaces legacy text engines and provides advanced typographic features for international languages and scripts. This includes support for Arabic, Hebrew, Indic scripts, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and other non-Latin scripts. With this unified approach, you can create multilingual designs without the complexity of changing text engines for each language.

Create a document with international text

Set the desired language in the Character panel. Language selection is needed only for hyphenation and spelling.

Select an appropriate font based on the selected language. For example, if you choose Thai language, set a Thai font such as Adobe Thai or Noto Sans Thai.

Copy and paste text composed in your chosen language. If you have a language-specific keyboard, simply type the text directly.

With the Unified Text Engine, Photoshop automatically handles the text shaping and layout for your selected language without requiring you to switch between different text engines.

Set language using the Properties panel

Select your text layer in the Layers panel.

Select Window > Properties to open the Properties panel.

Select your desired language from the Language dropdown menu.

The text layer Properties panel provides access to all advanced typographic features for your selected language. These features are automatically grouped together based on the language you're using.

Install language packs on Windows

To use these languages properly on Windows, install the Language and Font packs for the particular language you want to use.
