Create artboard documents

Learn how to create new artboards or convert existing documents into artboards in Adobe Photoshop.

Artboards let you design multiple canvases within one Photoshop document. Use them to work on different screen sizes, page layouts, or variations of a design side by side.

Create new artboards

Select File > New. The New Document dialog box opens.

Select the Artboards checkbox.

Select a preset that supports artboards. For example, Mobile.

Specify a name for the document, such as iPhone-subscribe.

Select Create. A new document opens with your first artboard visible in the Layers panel.

Create artboards from existing documents

Select File > Open and choose the Photoshop file you want to convert to an artboard.

In the Layers panel, select the layers you want to include in the new artboard.

Right-click the selected layers and select Artboard from Layers. Selected layers are converted into artboards. Each artboard appears as a separate group in the Layers panel.

Tip

To create an artboard from a layer group, right-click the group in the Layers panel and choose Artboard from Group.
