Create a droplet from an action

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to create droplets in Adobe Photoshop to batch-process files quickly by dragging them onto an icon.

Create the action that you want to use.

Select File > Automate > Create Droplet.

Select Choose in the Save Droplet In section and choose a location, such as your desktop.

Select an action set from the Set dropdown, then select the specific action from the Action dropdown.

Select OK to create the droplet. Your droplet appears as an icon at the specified location.

Drag a file or folder onto the droplet icon to automatically run the assigned action in Photoshop.

Best practices for cross-platform droplets

  • Use the EXE extension when creating droplets for compatibility on Windows and macOS.
  • Drag a Windows droplet onto the Photoshop   icon on macOS to update it for use.
  • Avoid hardcoded filenames in actions, as they can pause execution and prompt for a filename.
